Wilfried Van Baelen is the founder and CEO of Auro Technologies, and the driving force behind Auro-3D, the three dimensional sound format that promises to inject new energy into the world of home theatre audio. Like Dolby Atmos, Auro-3D is designed to add additional immersion to the surround sound experience. Crucially though it has an early lead over its rival. The first home theatre processors with Auro 3D decoding are just starting to ship from Datasat Digital Entertainment (the RS20i processor and sibling LS10, pictured below) and there’s apparently more hardware to come from Steinway Lyndorf, French AV manufacturer DMS and CAT (California Audio Technologies). AMSTERDAM, 4 February 2014 – Steinway Lyngdorf, leaders in high performance digital sound systems for home entertainment, and Auro Technologies have today announced a technology partnership agreement. The partnership will see the companies collaborate in the development of Steinway Lyngdorf processors incorporating the Auro-3D® immersive sound format. The new processors will make Auro-3D® available to the highly exclusive part of the home entertainment market.
The technology partnership agreement builds upon the Auro-3D® license agreement that the companies signed in January 2014. The partnership represents the latest step in bringing the Auro-3D® immersive sound out of the cinema, and into the consumer sector, with true 3D sound set to become one of the defining market trends in 2014.
